UA1 detects particles created in proton/antiproton collisions in the Super-Proton-Synchrotron (SPS) accelerator. Two of the outer muon \walls\" (silvery) are seen on top of the detector. UA1 discovered the W and Z particles in 1983, & the top quark in 1984. (Sept. '84)"
