Stone-faced rampart inside Cranbrook Castle,Cranbrook Castle is an Iron Age Hill fort occupying a commanding hilltop just to the south of and overlooking the Teign valley in on the edge of Dartmoor, overlooking Fingle Bridge and the River Teign from the south, this fort dominates the Teign valley together with its smaller neighbouring hillfort at Prestonbury Castle, which is lies on the opposite side of the river only one mile to the north-west. This hillfort is defended by a single rampart and ditch which encloses an area of 13 acres (). There are entrances on the south-east and south-west.
