African forest buffalo (Syncerus caffer nanus). This buffalo, found in the forests of central and western Africa, is smaller than the larger Cape buffalo found on the open plains and savannah. It is a reddish-brown colour and has much smaller horns. Photographed in Dzanga-Sangha National Park, in the Central African Republic. This national park is an area of tropical forest that forms part of the Congo Basin.
