In addition to being a study of oratory, thework has substantial historical value, whileadditional interest is added by the brief intro-ductory references that precede each selec-tion. A judicious discrimination is shown inthe compilation, while the typography is Anne of Green Gables, by L. M. Montgomery. IPublished by L. C. Page & Co., story of village life is valuable for itssimplicity and frequent pathos. We witnessthe adoption of Anne from the orphan asylum, although it was a boy that the Cuthbertswanted, and we are almost afraid that theywill try to remedy the mistake. But theykeep the poor little waif and we watch hergrow up to fine young womanhood, self-reliantand devoted. Annes peculiarities as a childare a little overdrawn. We get rather tiredof the amazing precociousness and imagina-tion of this weird child, who would soon be-come unbearable but for the modifying in-fluence of advancing years.
