Istanbul, Turkey; Medusa Columns, Yerebatan Saray Cistern, aka the Basilica or Sunken Cistern. Built by Justinian in 532AD it is supported by 336 columns and once held over 80,000 cubic metres of water. Many columns were re-used from ruined buildings, including these two carvings of Medusa, one inverted, the other on its side.
