Jason-3 satellite construction. Technician performing a practice run of the mechanical integration sequence that will be used to mate the Jason-3 spacecraft's Advanced Microwave Radiometer instrument to the Jason-3 Ocean Surface Topography Mission (OSTM) satellite. OSTM is an international Earth observation satellite mission that uses an array of instruments to map ocean surface topography to a high degree of accuracy. The radiometer measures radiation from Earth's surface at three frequencies to determine the amount of water vapour present in the atmosphere, which affects the accuracy of the Jason-3 altimeter measurements. Jason-3, scheduled for launch in 2015, will be the fourth spacecraft to be part of the OSTM, which was begun in 1992 by the joint
