And when the more direct testimonieshave been recited, there will remain a largebody of Scripture, in which the general idea isinterwoven into the whole texture of the lan-guage. It is one of the evidences of inspira-tion, that the great doctrines of grace are con-veyed to such an extent by implication. Sothat, if a destructive criticism should succeedin blotting out the formal and explicit state-ments of Christian doctrine, it would be foundso thoroughly incorporated in other passages,that the entire web of Scripture language mustbe torn to shreds before the truth could be eli-minated. This is just one of those marvellousexpedients of Divine wisdom which brings tonought all the subtlety of human exposition,when it undertakes the sad work of obliteratingthe record which God has given of Himself.
