The tablet reads, To the memory of theexiles from heaven and earth who were buried on thissite from 1820 to 1872. A glorious view burst upon us when we reached thetop. A level valley rises in the distance to meet thegentle sloping foot-hills beyond. These lead to thesnow-capped Andes.
