Geyserite. Geyserite is a loose hydrated form of silica which can be found deposited in concretionary masses around hot springs and geysers. Deposits such as this occur when water superheated by geothermal activity, dissolves many of the minerals in surrounding underground rocks. When the water escapes to the surface it cools, causing the minerals to precipitate, forming deposits. This particular deposit of geyserite has a width of 120mm.
