Dr. Henry Reed Hopkins, of Buffalo, was elected president ofthe Medical Society of the State of Xew York at its 96th annualmeeting, at Albany, January 28-30, 1902. In the history of the. HENRY REED HOPKINS. WILLIAM A. MOORE. society, which beg^an in 1806, but five Buffalo physicians havepreceded Dr. Hopkins in this honor. Henry R. Hopkins was born at Jamestown in 1844. Hispreliminary education was received in the public schools and theJamestown Academy, after which he came to Buffalo and beg^anthe study of medicine in May, 1865. He was graduated fromthe medical department of the University of Buffalo in 1867and afterward obtained two years experience in the Washingtonhospitals. In January, 1869, he returned to Buffalo and beganpractice with his distinguished uncle, Dr. Gorham F. Pratt. He is a member of the Medical Society of the County of Erie, 6o8 EDITORIAL. of the American Public Health Association, and of the Buf-falo Academy of Aledicine. Since 1885 he has been a per-manent member of the ^ledical Society of the State of NewYork, and for the last five years he has been chairman ofthe standing- committee on hyg^iene.
