Astillero beach in Malgrat de Mar of the Maresme region province of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain

Malgrat de Mar is a coastal municipality in the province of Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain). It belongs to the Maresme region, located in the north of the province and is the last municipality on the coast. The river Tordera borders the next region of La Selva, already in the province of Gerona. It has a beach of about 7 km and has many hotels and campsites. In its historic center, the church of San Nicolás stands out, with a neoclassical façade and an octagonal bell tower; temple that is known as the cathedral of the coast due to its dimensions. It also has buildings from medieval times (the Cooperativa library, old hospital) and modernist style (Ca l'Arnau or Torre de l'Esquena). Also noteworthy is the Monte del Castillo (castell) crowned with a park with magnificent panoramic views over the town and its surroundings, or the Francesc Macià park, recently created, join the centenary park of Can Campassol, the old garden of Zenobia's birthplace.
