Coast mountains and Squamish River near Brackendale British Columbia


The Squamish River is a short but very large stream draining a complex of basins in the Coast Mountains just north of Vancouver, entering the sea at the head of Howe Sound where the town of Squamish is located. Its main tributaries are the Cheakamus, Elaho and Mamquam Rivers. Its source is on the southwestern flank of the small unnamed range that includes Powder Mountain and Brandywine Mountain to the west of Whistler, and it is joined a few miles from its source by the much longer Elaho River. The total length of the Squamish River is c. 80 km (c. 50 mi).
