Each escalator is driven through gearing by a I5hp, 550-volt motor located in a concrete chamberoff a mezzanine floor under the trainmens lobby, shown inthe plan already mentioned, behind the starters moving stairways are operated continuously duringthe hours of train and car service. By furnishing a quickmeans of ascent from the discharging surface cars whichenter the terminal on the street level, they do away with.
