I would not have any otherflowers there except Crocuses in the turf. Sloping BiOse-beds would catch the full sunshine, and bush-trees thus massed give a finer display from a slight distance thanthose upon a level, but the slope should be gentle, and the strongest-growing varieties must not be cultivated here but reserved for theborders under the windows, in front of actual climbers. Theflowering shrubs on the opposite side of the steps might beDeutzias, Spiraeas, Weigelas, White Broom, and Cotoneasters; theChrysanthemums would look best carpeted by Violas.
