Antoine Simon 1843-1923) later President of Haiti (1908-1911) when he led a successful rebellion against Pierre Nord Alexis and succeeded him as president. Celestina his daughter was a voodoo priestess. In 'Tell My Horse', Zora Neale Hurston reveals the elabortate Catholic funeral Simon gave his pet goat Simalo .
