The Bight forms achannel eighteen miles wide leading to the portsof the Elbe and it is a nest of mines and lurkingsubmarines. The chief point of interest in the action of Au-gust 28, 1916, is the spirited dash against the out-skirts of these dangers by Admiral Beatties squad-ron, and his escape without serious damage afterinflicting losses upon the Germans.
