The sunlighttouches crisply the silvery bark of the birch, il-luminates the bright-colored garments of a peas-ant woman kneeling by the pond, and flickers onthe wild flowers which are scattered over thebroken ground. He wears a Scotchbonnet, a blue waistcoat, and leather-colored coatand trousers. Beyond the sunlit corner of thecottage is seen the distant moorland, with sheepfeeding on the hills, whose summits are lost in thedriving mist. A bunch of onions and a few herbshang against the wall on the right. The figureis shown to the knees only. Signed at the right, 2^icol, , 1873. Height, 24 inches; width, 18 inches.
