The leading market variety. Brunette (S) This new berry was originated by Granville Cowing, Dela- ware county, Ind., and is offered this spring for the first time. The origina- tor has the following to say. "Its berries are of a dark red color; round and almost invariably perfect, without any white tip ; quite firm ; strong grower. The berries have been sold only at home, where they have in- variably brought from three to five cents per quart more than best Haverland and Bubach, on account of its superior quality; Professor Troop, of the Indiana Experiment Station, has placed it at the head of all varieties at that station for delicious ; We copy the following from the Indiana Farmer for Oct., 1S94 : "The Brunette strawberry has been tested three years at the station, and it should find a place in every farmer's garden. It is a good grower and pro- ductive. The berry is large and dark read, and of the very best quality; it is especially for home use or home ; Prof. \V. J. Green, of the Ohio Experimental Station, after testing it three years, expresses the following opinion of it in a letter to its originator : "The Brunette has done finely for us this season ; it is the finest l>erry for home use I am acquainted with; I shall plant it almost exclusively for my own family use, as we find nothing else that suit
