Codrington College is named after Christopher Codrington a wealth Barbadian landowner and governor of the leeward islands from 1698 to 1702 It was founded with the fortunes made from the sugar plantations that once stood o the site The first degree level institution in the English speaking west Indies it continues to teach theology to budding Anglican vicars and is now affiliated to the University of the west Indies
