The Market. This city, like most other cities of the east, has passed through a hot spell of weather. Not for a number of years has the temperature kept at such a high level, and for just over a month scarcely one inch of rain fell. This condition has put inferior flowers of all kinds on the market, and this applies in a great measure to indoor stock, which has also suffered to a great extent. So far as business is concerned, the intense heat has practically crippled it except for funeral work. This, fortunately, has kept most of the stores occupied during these hottest days. The supply of roses at this time is fairly heavy, but their quality is not extra good. They either arrive well opened or, as soon as ex- posed, open away up. Quantities of Pre- mier, Columbia, Maryland, Killarney, Scott Key and Hoosier Beauty reach us each day and are sold at the usual sum- mer prices. Wards and Ophelias are arriving short-stemmed. There has not been a big demand for orchids of late. Lily of the valley is good and the sup- ply meets the demand. Carnations are dropping off slightly in supply and they are getting m
