Western Kingbird (Tyrannus verticalis) perched on barbed wire at cattle ranch, Sacramento County California USA

The Western Flycatcher (Tyrannus verticalis) can be found in open rangeland of the USA west where fence posts and wire are handy perches for the bird's searches for its insect prey. There are several species in the Tyrannus genus that look very similar; the Western Flycatcher can be separated from the others by the white outer tail feathers.
