A history of the family of Seton during eight centuries [With plates, including portraits, illustrations, facsimiles, a bibliography and genealogical tables.] . of Lumphard, who appearsto have been in possession of the entire estate ofMounie in 1590. The following curious entry occurs in the Register ofDeeds, etc. (vol. xlvi.), under date Aberdeen, 26 July 1594: Obligationby John Seatoun of Mowny, as cautioner and surety for John Ray,merchant burgess of Aberdeen, that he shall receave home, maintain, treatand entertain Cristian Howesone, as becomes a man to his wife, in bedand board, conform to a decreet obtained by her against him thereanent, before the Commissary of Aberdeen on 14 February last. John Setonwas succeeded by his son William,1 before September 1597, and the estateafterwards passed into other hands. It was, however, brought back in1714, by George Seton, second son of Sir Alexander Seton of Pitmedden,Baronet, from whom the present owner of Mounie is descended. 1 William Seytoun of Muny is mentionedin a charter to John Seytoun of Auquhorties, dated 5th July 1610—Reg. Mag. Sig.—PaperRegister, i. 72. 3Q 49o MANOR-HOUSE OF MOUNIE. In the Register of the Privy Seal there are several entries relative tothe earlier owners of Mounie. Thus, on the 29th of June 1592, we find aletter of gift to Alexander King, Advocate, of the escheat of John Seytounof Munie, now in the Kings hands through the said John being put tothe horn at the instance of Alexander King and Janet his spouse, for non-payment to them of 1000 Four years later (27th January 1596-7) there is a precept of remissionto William Setoun of Muny for art and part in the murder of the lateAlexander King, Advocate, in the month of November Thisdoubtless relates to the son and successor of John Seton of Lumphard, andseems to have an unpleasant connection with the debt of 1000 merksreferred to in the preceding entry. Lastly, on the 19th of July 1597 we come across a precept for ratifica-tion
