A new dairy barn has been built, in which an attempthas been made to combine cheapness and utility with sanitaryconditions, light and air. The stable is made to hold fortycows and has concrete floors and iron fittings throughout. Itis 86 feet by 39 feet, with 9 foot ceiling, and has a feed andmixing room 22 feet by 25 feet, to which the two silos arejoined. The latter are of wood, eighteen and fifteen feet in 158 DOMINION EXPERIMENTAL FARMS. < DOMINION EXPERIMENTAL FARMS 159 diameter respectively and thirty feet high Per cow, there isabout ten square feet of glass and 750 cubic feet of air space. The old stable has been remodelled and a cement floor putin. The part intended for horses is made to hold eleven, andthat for cows contains four large calf pens, two box stalls forcows and one bull pen. A dairy, twenty by twenty-eight feet, has just been com-pleted, and is equipped to turn out either butter or fancy cheese. Horses. These have been kept, so far, only to carry on the farmwork, nothing having been done in horse breeding, which,however, will be given attention from now on, with the objectof producing animals suitable for farm use. Sheep. For a number of years a fair-sized flock of Dorset Hornedsheep has been maintained on the Experimental Farm.
