Raymond Gosling (1926-2015), British physicist. Gosling worked at the MRC Biophysics Research Unit at King's College London, UK. It was here in the early 1950s that Gosling, Wilkins and Rosalind Franklin obtained X-ray diffraction patterns for DNA that led to James Watson and Francis Crick's DNA double helix model. Gosling was a research student at the time, and went on to lecture in physics at the University of St Andrews, and at the University of the West Indies. He later worked in medical physics at Guy's Hospital Medical School, developing doppler ultrasound for blood flow monitoring. Photographed circa 1960.
