CHAPTER XIII HOW THE COLONIES WERE GOVERNED Another English Mistake. — It was a mistake for the rulersof England to act as if the colonists did not have the samerights of trade as the people who remained in England. Theymade another mistake in changing their plans of colonialgovernment. At first they allowed the colonists to govern. Great Seal granted to the New England Colonies in 1685 themselves almost independently. But after the coloniesbecame large, the government interfered more often in themanagement of their affairs.
