Charles Carroll of Carrollton 1835 Asher Brown Durand American Durand portrays a leading figure from Maryland who supported independence from Britain during the colonial period, served as a delegate to the Continental Congress, and then as a senator. The only Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence, he was the longest-lived, dying in 1832 at the age of ninety-five.
