William Brewster, preaching here, was a Pilgrim Father and served as the leader of the church in Plymouth Colony.

William Brewster (1567-1644) was a Pilgrim Father. He was not a minister, but did serve as the leader of the church in Plymouth Colony and is shown in this 1900 illustration preaching in Plymouth to churchgoers. In American history, the Pilgrims were the founders of Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts. The key members of the group were English separatists who had moved to Holland in 1607-08. They obtained a charter from London Co. and, with the help of London merchants, sailed on the Mayflower in 1620.
