Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, Northumberland, United Kingdom: The ''Angel of the North'' is a contemporary sculpture,created by Anthony Gormley and commissioned by Gateshead Council. It is Britain's largest sculpture and believed to be the world's largest angel sculpture. The angel was fabricated of 200 tonnes of weathering steel. It rises 20 meters and had a wing span of 54 meters; almost as big a a jumbo jet. It stands on a hill on the southern edge of Low Fell, overlooking the A1 and A167 roads into Tyneside, and the East Coast Main Line rail route, south of the site of Team Colliery.
