Dead sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) on a beach, with people looking at it. This whale washed up on Balmedie Beach near Aberdeen, in the Grampian Region of Scotland. The whale is lying on its left side. It is approximately 10 metres long, and weighed around 25 tons. The scars on the nose are characteristic of encounters with the giant squid.
