Transit employee Myron Moore cleans the bonnet of subway car in the car wash of the massive 75 acre Coney Island Train Yard Maintenance Facility in Brooklyn in New York on Thursday, June 3, 2010. using hot water generated by the facility's solar thermal array. The 48 panels mounted on the roof capture and retain heat from the sun transferring it to water which is then used to clean and wash subway trains during their scheduled maintenance and for domestic staff uses such as showers. The system, which uses no chemicals, will save the NYCTA almost $460,000 a year and reduce greenhouse gas emission by more than 2600 tons a year.
