More expression and action isattempted, and the drawing of the figures is moreambitious both as regards attitude and di-apery, butthey are far inferior in efiect to the older mosaics,and the effort after greater naturalism has re-sulted in a giotesqueness that suffers by con-trast with the severe conventionalism of the olderschool. The altar frontal is of silver gilt, and datesapparently from the sixteenth century.
