Dying Earth. Image 3 of 9. Artwork of the hot Sun baking what used to be a coastline in around a billion years from the present time. The Moon is seen at upper left. As the Sun ages it will heat up and expand, slowly evaporating the seas and oceans and eradicating all life on Earth. Here all the water has boiled off into space, leaving Earth a dry and barren world. Clouds of hot gases fill the sky as the rocks decompose in the extreme heat.
