Should there be any difficulty of reducing this dislocation inthis manner, let it be done by extension and counter-extension. A sheet, foldedlongitudinally, is first to be placed over the groin or under the perinseum ; oneend must he carried behind the patient, the other before, and then either heldby assistants, or fastened to one of the legs or posts of the bed. The limb is one, two, or two and a half inches shorter than theother. 2d. The toe rests upon the tarsus of the other foot, the knee and footbeing turned inward. 3d. The dislocated leg is nearly locked, admitting of but very little motion,but may be flexed or bent, and brought across the other. 4th. The head of the thigh-bone may be felt when motion of the limbis made, or when rotated inward, except the swelling be too great. Again ,it is less prominent than the other.
