Illustration of gold (Au) atoms in a metallic crystal structure. The atoms are arranged in a face-centred cubic (FCC) unit cell structure. In this arrangement, there are atoms at each corner of the cube and an atom centred on each face of the cube. This creates a highly symmetrical structure with a dense packing of gold atoms.
