He ought to have said: I am notvery much glad. 158 MARSHALL COLLEGE. In establishing the Classical Institution Dr. Eauch wasvery successful. In 1833 he reported that the numberof students was forty-seven and in the succeeding yearit had increased to seventy-six. The synod was so wellpleased that, in 1833, it directed the churches to take upcollections for the classical institution, as well as for thetheological seminary. Dr. Kauch was installed at Yorkon the 17th of October, HIGH SCHOOL EST YOKK. Tor one year the Eev. J. H. Agnew was Dr. Eauchsassistant. Mr. Agnew taught English, Latin (Virgil andHorace), U. S. history, mental arithmetic, algebra, geog-raphy and natural philosophy. In the autumn of 1833the Eev. H. Miller and the Eev. C. Dober were appointedassistants. Mr. E. Blech also taught for some time atthe request of Dr. Eauch, but does not seem to have been LITERARY SOCIETIES. 159 regularly appointed. Mr. Miller having resigned at theclose of the winter session, the Board selected Samuel , , as his successor. Professor Budd subse-quently became a member of the Taculty of MarshallCollege and was very highly esteemed. In 1835 the name of the Classical Institution waschanged by synod to High School of the KeformedChurch. No doubt it had previously been popularlyknown by the latter title. By this time
