Piers of a dismantled railway bridge across the River Thames at Blackfriars station

The pink-painted piers for the 1860 London Chatham & Dover Railway bridge into St Paul's (later Blackfriars) station were left standing when the superstructure was removed in 1984 - it had been disused for some years, although the 1886 bridge behind remains in use. Both were built as ornate structures appropriate to serve St Paul's station. Currently there are plans to re-use at least some of the piers as support for new platforms for suburban services into Blackfriars.
