Vertical limb of preopercle convex for upper two-thirds of its length and weakly concave below, or evenly rounded; lobe at angle weakly developed or absent; in small individuals there are coarse denticulations. but in the 975-mm specimen the lobe is finely serrated. Maxilla extends to a point just behind vertical from rear margin of orbit, except in small juveniles, in which it does not quite reach to below rear margin of orbit. Posterior nostril not notably en- larged; its diameter times that of anterior in subadults and adults, relatively smaller in juveniles. Lower jaw massive and protrud-.
