At right angles with this former residence of thelords of Verona stands the Palazzo del Consiglio, orold Town hall, more often called La Loggia di FraGiocondo, though critics are not agreed as to whetherhe designed the Loggia or whether it is the work ofAntonio Riccio, or Rizzo, a Veronese. It is gener-ally attributed to Fra Giocondo, and is a most perfectand beautiful example of Renaissance style. It waserected by order of the Venetian Republic in 1497,and is reckoned as one
