Its existence dates back at least from the 15th century, although it acquired greater importance throughout the 19th century. The area was affected when the walls were demolished in 1874, but "El Bornet" was transformed by the Universal Exhibition of 1888. new buildings were built, including a new market whose works began in 1874 and concluded in 1876.
