Mr. Hayneshas also been inter-ested in large andsuccessful real estateventures, that have materially added to the assessed valuation of the city ofBoston. In early life, after having been for many yearsa scholar in a Baptist Sunday school, he became inter-ested, in 1848, in the preaching of Theodore Parkerand in the Twenty-eighth Congregational Society, whichwas organized to give Theodore Parker a chance tobe heard in Boston, and was for many years chairmanof its standing committee. Mr. Havnes was active inthe construction of the Parker Memorial Building and. JOHN C. HAYNES instrumental in its recent transfer to the BenevolentFraternity of Churches. He was also one of the organ-izers of the Parker Fraternity of Boston. Of late yearshe has been connected with the Church of the Unity, ofwhich Rev. M. J. Savage is the minister. While still ayoung man, he helped to organize the Franklin , and his long connection with it was of greatadvantage to him. He is a life member of the Mercan-tile Library Association, the Young Mens Christian Union, the WomansIndustrial Lnion,andthe .Aged CouplesHome Society; atrustee of the Frank-lin Savings Bank ;director of the Mass-achusetts Title Insur-ance Company, andof the Prudential FireInsurance Company;treasurer of the FreeReligious Associa-tion ; member of theMassachusetts a n dHome Market clubsand of the BostonMerchants .Associa-tion ; president ofthe Parker Memor
