The excavation of the site covered three wholeseasons and substantial parts of two others. On June 26 the party was taken on board the revenue cutter Alertand transported to Unalaska. There, while fitting out and awaitingfurther transportation to the Aleutians, excavations were started onwhat proved to be a valuable pre-Russian site, approximately a mileto the west of Dutch Harbor. These excavations resulted in numerousspecimens and several burials which proved highly in
