NELSON stages its annual Lancashire Day after town councillors stepped in to save the traditional event. The November event had been put in jeopardy due to financial constraints at Nelson town hall. However it has been thrown a lifeline after a committee was set up by Nelson Town Council to organise it. Hundreds of people usually attend the event, featuring rides and stalls, which also coincides with the town’s Christmas lights switch on. Coun Eileen Ansar, who will lead a team of town councillors organising the event, has championed Lancashire Day in Nelson and said it was an important event for the town. She said: “It was close to being cancelled but it’s one of the biggest events in the Nelson calendar so we had to do all we could to save it. “It has fallen on the town council to organise it this year so that is what we will do. It brings a lot of people in to the town and it is an important event for traders and town centre visitors. “This year’s event is now going to be bigger and better than ever, there will be plenty to do for all the family and rides for the children to enjoy.”
