The agriculture was decreasing, and there waslittle profitable commerce. The thriftless worked no betterin Georgia than they had in London, and the thrifty werediscouraged by the obstacles to success. Special complaintwas made that the climate and lands were unsuited to theproduction of wine and silk, but the trustees insisted thatthese should be produced. The cotton plant was grownwith success, but the trustees did not favor its slaves and rum were still prohibited. Complaintswere made against
