American cowslip, Dodecatheon meadia. Handcoloured botanical copperplate engraved by Stadler after an original painting by Peter Henderson from Dr. Robert Thorton's "The Temple of Flora," 1812, Lottery or quarto edition, not included in the original folio edition of 1807. The illustrations were a mix of aquatint, mezzotint and stipple engravings finished by hand.
