An electrosurgery device with an integrated smoke evacuation system used at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital eliminates surgical smoke produced during cauterization that would otherwise be inhaled by patients and staff in the operating room. Surgical smoke has more than 150 identified hazardous chemicals and has been equated to smoking 30 unfiltered cigarettes per day.
