This is an inciting map of the Turbid Amazon done in Red and hasnt anything to do with the story except that there are two Arma-dillos in it—up by the top. The inciting part are the adventures thathappened to the men who went along the road marked in red. I meant todraw Armadillos when I began the map, and I meant to draw manateesand spider-tailed monkeys and big snakes and lots of Jaguars, but it wasmore inciting to do the map and the venturesome adventures in red. Now I knowyoure Tortoise. You thought I wouldnt !Now I will. Painted Jaguar darted out hispaddy-paw just as Stickly-Prickly curled himselfup, and of course Jaguars paddy-paw was justfilled with prickles. Worse than that, heknocked Stickly-Prickly away and away into thewoods and the bushes, where it was too dark tofind him. Then he put his paddy-paw into hismouth, and of course the prickles hurt himworse than ever. As soon as he could speak hesaid, Now I know he isnt Tortoise at —and then he scratched his head withhis un-prickly paw— how do I know that thisother is Tortoise ? But I am Tortoise, said Slow-and-Solid. Your moth
