Trustee Whitmore announced the signing of the FreedomBill by the Governor that afternoon after enactment by both theHouse and the Senate without a dissenting vote. The bill becomesChapter 556 of the Acts of 1956. In signing the bill the Governoradded an emergency preamble making the bill effective immediatelyso that the University might fill vacant positions with qualifiedcandidates before the opening of the fall semester.
