Colonade of the Louvre

The view taken in 1828 shows the Colonade of the Louvre completed in 1670. The architects Le Veau, Le Brun and Claude Perrault proposed designs to Louis XIV from which Perrault’s design was chosen. The fine bas-relief over the central pediment represents the nine muses paying homage to the king is by Lemot. The bas-relief over the entrance is by M. Cartellier. The Emperor Napoleon is responsible for many of the improvements and decorative features. The image was drawn by F Arundale under the direction of A Pugin and engraved by H Wallis
