Part ofsouthern Carolina seemed for a while almost a French colony,as there were so many settlers who could not speak Carolinas divided. — The proprietors did not con-sider the settlements on the Albemarle and at Charleston astwo distinct colonies, but as parts of one. They were, how-ever, too far apart to have any dealings with each other. It.
