The furze bushes growing on theheath grounds about Tunbridge Wells are coveredwith it during the months of July and August,when it is in blossom. It at first view appearsto be a part of the plant which it encircles, as noroot can be discovered, that having died away inthe ground as soon as the parasite had establisheditself. The dodder produces a great number of redthreads, which are sometimes two feet long; butit is not possible to disengage so large a portion ofthem, as they are so thickly inter
